Just wanted to update everyone about my dad! It sure was a roller coaster of a ride!! He continued to get worse and so I made the decision to go home on Wednesday the 26th which was also Derek's birthday! The night I arrived I went straight to the hospital and he did not look well. It was very hard seeing him like that. He had a blood transfusion and they were starting some shots that would help increase his WBC. He looked better the next day and then Friday he tried taking a shower with out O2 and he had to stop and get me as he couldnt breath well. Another very scary situation for me to see. After that he seemed to get a little better everyday. His WBC increased just a small amount everyday and his fevers had started to go away. He had a bad time getting IV's in and so they ended up doing a PICC line. They also did a bone marrow biopsy, which we dont know the results to yet. With help from my family in watching the kids, I was able to go up to the hospital everyday to see him. I even had one evening out!! It wasnt a FUN trip home, but it was a good trip home. It snowed, it got -21 degrees below, and it was scary driving some, but dad got better and I decided it was time to go home on Friday the 4th. Just so happened a couple days after I bought my tickets home, they decided to let dad go home on that Friday as well! Worked out perfect!! They took the PICC line out and he went home on O2. The following Monday he had his follow up appt and he did great! His blood levels continue to increase and his O2 amount needed is decreasing! I think he really enjoys being home!!
Unfortunatly we had a HORRIBLE time getting home and got stuck in Memphis for 7 hours, got put on 3 different flights until I finally said, nevermind get me to Atlanta and I will find a way home from there! Derek's mom came and picked us up LATE that night, spent the night with her and Derek came and picked us up the next day. I wrote one heck of a complaint to Delta for their rudeness and unhelpfulness for someone traveling alone with 2 kids, and they sent me 2 $125 vouchers. I guess thats ok, but it was not a fun experience at all!!!!
We are glad to be home and getting back into the swing of things, Braylon had a bit of a stomach bug when we got back, but is better now. Derek is leaving next week for a couple of days, but I guess we need to get used to that :) He will be gone for the kids birthday's this summer so the plan is to do the birthday celebrations Memorial day weekend. Madisynn's on Saturday and Braylon's on Sunday! Hope everyone can make the trip again to help us celebrate and I guess say goodbye to Derek!! :(
Will post some pictures soon!!!
